I quite miss giving blood and I wanted to register to the Candian bone marrow donations list, but (because I am a man who has sex with men) I am not allowed.
So I’m just going to write them a letter.
Here is what it says,
Hi there,
My name is Mark and I used to donate blood when I could, a few years ago I came out as bisexual and I have been with a few men since so I stopped donating. I have a question, as a man who has sex with men, I cannot give blood, correct? But I am also a transsexual man (I was assigned female at birth and have transitioned away from that identity since then), I have never had genital surgery and I do not ‘bottom’ for anal sex. Does this exclude me from your rules? Can I donate? I also wanted to apply to be on the registry for stem cell donations, as far as I can tell the same rules seem to apply.
Please let me know, all I want to do is be able to give blood again and to possibly register to donate bone marrow. (Honestly, the whole ‘no homosexual men’ rule seems pretty outdated).
Best Wishes,
Mark
